Anthrpocene Research Center

Past, Present, Future

Providing affordable, peer-reviewed archaeology field schools, training students for a broad range of careers in academia, cultural resource management and government

2026 Field Schools

careers in academic archaeology, cultural resource management & government compliance agencies

Contemporary archaeology offers rewarding careers in academia, Cultural Resource Management in the private sector and Oversight & Compliance in the government sector. A field school should expose students to potential careers in all three sectors and our programs do just that. We offer academic credits, list and certify all skills learned and provide all field school graduates with one year of free membership with the Registrar for Professional Archaeologists.  Students can attend an ARC field school and upon graduation, select the forward career path best suited to their interests and needs.

Who Are We?

The Anthropocene Research Center was created in 2025, one of two daughter organizations coming from the split of the Center for Field Sciences into two separate, independent entities. The split was initiated by the CFS Board of Directors, to solve the conflict of interest of peer-reviewing field schools while having a financial interest in the success of field schools themselves. While the new CFS will conduct reviews of archaeology field schools and publish results online, the Anthropocene Research Center will run the programs themselves, outsourcing the review of programs to a disinterested, independent third party.
