For Mature Adults
We do not accept volunteers. Our programs are designed to train young students for careers in archaeology & cultural resource management (CRM). However, most of our programs accept mature adults if (1) they can physically perform field work; (2) are comfortable sharing accommodation with young students; and (3) plan to attend the full length of a program.
If you wish to have a more laid back program with other mature adults, the organizations below offer options that may better fit your needs.

Outward Bound USA is the leading provider of outdoor education programs that allow young people to explore their personal potential, since 1962. From expeditions in some of the most remote locations in the U.S. to programs in local schools and neighborhoods, young people nationwide are cultivating a passion for learning, and discovering greater success in school, work and life.

Earthwatch Expeditions pair researchers with volunteers to address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Explore our current expeditions to discover how you can make a difference.

The Balkan Heritage Foundation offers short term programs, typically two weeks in length. While their programs target college students, their activities are less rigorous and include significant time off to explore the area where the field school takes place. These programs may be a good fit for individuals looking for short, affordable programs.
