Cancellation, Late Fee

& Withdrawal Policies

DEPOSIT PAYMENT POLICY

Deposit payments are $300 per program and are nonrefundable. The only exception is when the Anthropocene Research Center (ARC) cancels a program. In such a case, full refund of the deposit will be made to the student. See below for more information about ARC cancellation of field schools.

TUITION PAYMENT POLICY

Tuition Payment Deadline: Tuition payment deadline dates are posted on the top/right of each field school page. Tuition payments are refundable if requested on or before the Payment Deadline Date.

Tuition Payment Deadline Passed: Tuition payments are nonrefundable after the payment deadline has passed.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Pay close attention to tuition payment deadline, posted on the top of each field school page on the ARC website

Who Need to Officially Withdraw: Students who made any payment to the ARC (deposit and/or tuition) are subject to this policy. Students who were accepted to a program but made no payments are NOT subject to this policy.

How to Withdraw: Students who wish to withdraw must notify the ARC by sending a formal withdrawal email to the admin@anthroctr.org. The ARC will reply within two business days to confirm withdrawal request. A withdrawal request is incomplete without the confirmation email.

Withdrawal before Tuition Payment Deadline: If a student withdraws before the tuition payment deadline, she/he/they have no further financial obligation to the ARC. Per the Deposit Policy (see above), the deposit is nonrefundable.

Withdrawal after Tuition Payment Deadline: If a student withdraws after the tuition payment deadline, the student is legally responsible for paying the full tuition, regardless of attendance in the field school. If a withdrawn student does not pay the full tuition, an interest on the balance owed – Prime Rate plus 2.5% – will be charged. Calculation of interest begins on the day after the tuition payment deadline, as listed on the field school page. Students who are admitted and pay the deposit after the tuition payment deadline are immediately subject to this Withdrawal Policy.

Failure to comply with the Withdrawal Policy: Failure to comply with this Withdrawal Policy may result in legal action by the ARC. If legal action is taken, the student will be responsible for the cost of full tuition, legal costs, attorney fees and other fees to the extent permitted by law.

Late Fee POLICY

Students are responsible for completing all payments by the Tuition Payment Deadline, as posted on the field school page. If any balance remains after that date, or a student begins enrollment past the tuition payment deadline, a $100 Late Fee will be assessed for the student account.

PROGRAM CANCELATION BY ARC

The ARC is monitoring conditions at field school locations across the world – including pandemic and epidemic outbreaks. A program may be cancelled if the ARC deems the field school location to be insufficiently safe for students. For legal purposes, a location is deemed unsafe if the US State Department issues a Level 4 (Do Not Travel) Travel Advisory. ARC may also cancel a program at its own discretion or due to a Force Majeure event, which includes circumstances beyond our control — such as war, pandemic, natural disaster, an industrial accident or labor dispute.

If the ARC cancels a program, students get priority enrolling in any other available ARC field school. If the cost of the new program is less than the cancelled field school, students will get a refund for the differences. If the cost is higher, students will be asked to pay the difference.

TRIP & TRAVEL CANCELLATION INSURANCE

The ARC is NOT providing trip cancellation insurance. Students who wish to have such insurance should explore outside providers.  Insuremytrip, Squaremouth or Travelguard are possible providers, although there are many more.

Travel insurance policies changed due to Covid 19. If you wish to purchase an insurance policy that covers pandemic contingencies – including the cost of airfare and tuition – explore Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) plans.

ARC does not endorse any company or insurance provider.

RESOLUTION OF DISPUTES

As to any disputes regarding this cancelation policy, or any disagreement between ARC and the student, an effort will first be made to resolve such a dispute before taking any legal action. The Parties shall meet to discuss the dispute no later than thirty (30) days after either party gives written notice to the other Party that such a dispute exists.

If the parties fail to resolve the dispute informally, a party may bring the dispute to the state and federal courts located within Los Angeles County, California. Each party consents to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California. This policy and any agreement between the parties shall be governed by the laws of the State of California without reference to any conflict of laws principles that would require the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction.

If any part of this policy is held by a court to be invalid, void or unenforceable, the remaining parts of this policy will continue in full force and effect without being invalidated in any way.
