Academic Credits and Grades
School of Record
Our academic partner & School of Record is Culver Stockton College. C-SC is a small, Liberal Arts school in Missouri, established in 1853. C-SC was the first academic institution west of the Mississippi River chartered specifically for men and women. Quite a proud heritage! All Anthropocene Research Center students will get a letter grade and transcripts at the end of their field school participation from C-SC. Anthropocene Research Center students will be awarded 2-8 semester credit units as HIS 489 class (Selected Topics in History). The Number of credits units awarded correspond to the number of instruction hours (see below). All credit units are Upper Division class, as posted on the C-SC Academic Catalog.
Notwithstanding the above, C-SC does not engage directly with nthropocene Research Center students, nor does it offer financial aid to participants in our programs. Students are engaged exclusively with the Anthropocene Research Center
Credit Units
Students attending ARC programs will be awarded credits units based on the formula presented in the table below. Our four weeks (or longer) programs awards the full number of credits units – 8 semester based credits (equivalent to 12 quarter based credits).

| 160 or more hours | 4 Weeks or more | 8 Semester Credits | 12 Quarter Credits |
| 120 hours | 3 Weeks | 6 Semester Credits | 9 Quarter Credits |
| 80 hours | 2 Weeks | 4 Semester Credits | 6 Quarter Credits |
| 40 hours | 1 Week | 2 Semester Credits | 3 Quarter Credits |
All credits units are Upper Division
Transcripts
Students will be able to access their transcript through our School of Record – Culver-Stockton College. C-SC has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide enrollment and degree verification. Upon completion of a field school, students will get an email from C-SC with their student ID. Student will need to use this ID to retrieve transcripts. The first set of transcripts will be provided at no cost. Additional transcripts may require payment. If you have questions about ordering a transcript, contact the C-SC office of the Registrar at registrar@culver.edu.
Transfer of Credit Units
Students are strongly encouraged to discuss the transferability of credit units with their own school official(s) BEFORE attending an ARC field school. When meeting with school officials – whether the Registrar, Study Away Staff, or Academic Adviser – students should bring the field school syllabus with them. They should also provide the school official with the ARC website address so officials may independently review our academic merit review process.
To download the syllabus, go to your program’s web page and click on the ‘Download Syllabus’ button. The syllabus will downloaded as a PDF file and you may print or save to your computer.
Academic Grade & Cultural Resource Management Skills
The ARC provides students with two independent evaluations of their field school learning:
- Grades: Students will get a letter grade for their transcripts. We award a full letter grade, without +/- designations.
- Skills: Students will be evaluated on the list of skills as published in the syllabus. Each skill will be evaluated as Basic, Competent or Advanced. A Certificate of Completion with skill ranking will be sent to the student at the end of the field school.
Appeal Your Grade
Students who wish to appeal your field school grade, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Contact the field school director and ask for a grade change.
Step 2: If the issue was not resolved with the program director, complete this Grade Review Request and send as an email attachment to admin@anthroctr.org.
Step 3: ARC will review and reply, normally within two weeks. If grade change is awarded, ARC will send the grade change to our School of Record and the changed grade will appear in your transcripts. ARC decision is final and may not be appealed.
Early departure from a field school
If you leave the field school before its final date, you will not get a grade or skill certificate, nor will you get any refund.
Attending multiple field schools
Students may attend as many programs as they wish. All ARC field schools get the same academic ID number so students attending more than one program may not be able to transfer credits for all programs to their home school. Consult with your academic advisor about the number of credits you can transfer in when attending multiple programs.
Consortium Agreements
Some schools (mostly Liberal Art Colleges) may require a Consortium Agreement between the school and ARC. We are happy to comply. To request a consortium agreement, please review the following restrictions:
- Consortium Agreements must originate at the university where the student is presently matriculating
- The student must complete their part of the agreement before sending the form to ARC.
- When ready, sign and send the Consortium Agreement as an email attachment to admin@anthroctr.org. We will review and sign, usually within 3 business days. We will return the form to the student and/or school officials as an email attachment. Students may ask for a hard copy.
